Why does music need small venues?

Certain Audiences can't get to the bigger venues which is a problem.

Most of the acts aren't famous enough to play in the bigger venues.

It can kick start your career in the music industry.

In many cases, small venues need the music and the publicity so they can gain more income.

Large venues

Advantages:

-They can get a higher attendance

-There can be more space for the performer to get ready

-More space for the audience to move about because of the increased size of the room.

Disadvantages:

-Costs more money to host and to get tickets

-Usually in high up areas making it harder for the audience to get there if they are disabled

Small venues

Advantages:

-costs less money to host and to get tickets

-The audience tend to live locally to the venue so it is easier for them to get there from their homes

-Usually located in areas that are not very well known

-Usually are not in high up areas which allows easy access for disabled people

Disadvantages:

-Not as many people can attend becauyse there are not as many seats

-May become very crowded

-If they do not live locally to the venue, people may struggle to get there

-There may not be direct transport to the venue.

Health and Safety

In a venue that frequently has a lot of live music, there will be a lot of wires around, they must all be taped down using white tape, this is so that people can see them and to prevent anyone tripping over them. Any venue must have fire exits with at least two with disabled access.

The number of fire exits a venue has determines it’s capacity, so they are generally designed to incorporate a lot of fire exits. Of course there is a limit to any venues capacity so they must employ bouncers to guard the doors once it is full, and also to turn away any unsuitable customers e.g. if they are underage.

How they make money:

They must make money and one of the only ways they can do that is from ticket sales and selling alcoholic beverages.
